Las autoridades evacuaron 1.4 millones de personas
Doce personas murieron en las crecidas de los ríos y en derrumbes de lodo y 10 estaban desaparecidos, dijo la policía.
En Japón, el tifón Etau castigó las costas occidentales del país.
Las intensas lluvias desataron un deslave masivo en Pengxi, un poblado en la ciudad de Wenzhou de la provincia oriental de Zhejiang, destruyendo siete edificios de apartamentos de tres pisos al pie de la montaña.
Después de golpear Taiwán, Morakot azotó la provincia china de Fujian, con fuertes lluvias y vientos de 119 kilómetros por hora (74 mph), de acuerdo con la Administración Meteorológica de China.
El gabinete de Taiwán destinó 20 mil millones de nuevos dólares taiwaneses (600 millones de dólares), de un fondo de emergencia para ayudar en las labores de rescate y compensar a las familias de las víctimas.
Las autoridades taiwanesas confirmaron 62 muertes y 57 desaparecidos, pero las cifra no incluye los residentes en el pueblo de Shiao Lin, donde hay varios desaparecidos.
El tifón desató las peores inundaciones en al menos medio siglo.

En China, las autoridades evacuaron a un millón y medio de personas y 10 mil viviendas quedaron destruidas.
'Morakot', que significa 'esmeralda' en tailandés, arrojó hasta dos metros (80 pulgadas) de lluvia durante el fin de semana en Taiwán, la peor inundación en medio siglo.
Un helicóptero se estrelló en una montaña durante una misión para rescatar aldeanos de los bosques del sur, el sector más afectado por la tormenta.
Centenares de personas seguían presumiblemente atrapados por un torrente de lodo y rocas que enterró sus casas.
Los helicópteros militares rescataron a aldeanos de remotas comunidades taiwanesas arrasadas por el tifón 'Morakot' que dejó al menos 70 muertos.
