Rebeldes libios toman Trípoli

Miles de civiles jubilosos salieron corriendo de sus casas para animar a los convoys de camionetas llenas de combatientes rebeldes que disparaban al aire. Algunos de los combatientes estaban roncos y gritaban: "Venimos por ti, cabeza crespa", un apodo burlón de Gadafi.
La Plaza Verde ha sido el sitio de las manifestaciones de apoyo nocturnas de los partidarios de Gadafi durante el levantamiento.
Un líder rebelde dijo que la unidad encargada de proteger a Gadafi en Trípoli se había rendido y se unió a la revuelta, lo que permitió a las fuerzas de la oposición moverse libremente.
Periodistas que viajan con los rebeldes dijeron que avanzaron fácilmente desde las afueras al oeste de la capital hasta el bastión del régimen, en un giro notable de los acontecimientos en la guerra civil libia que ya cumple seis meses de enfrentamientos.
Los rebeldes arrestaron a su hijo, otrora su heredero, Seif al-Islam, quien junto con su padre son acusados de crímenes de lesa humanidad en la Corte Penal Internacional en Holanda.
La televisión estatal trasmitió las amargas súplicas de Gadafi a fin de que los libios defiendan su régimen.
Los defensores de Gadafi rápidamente desaparecían mientras su régimen de 42 años se desmoronaba, y no se conocía su paradero, mientras persistían algunos bolsones de resistencia.
Eufóricos rebeldes libios tomaron el control de gran parte de Trípoli tras un rápido avance, celebrando la victoria en la Plaza Verde, el simbólico centro del poder del régimen de Moamar Gadafi.
